The Aspen Ideas Festival never fails to bring together the best and brightest minds in their fields, discussing the most important issues of the time and brainstorming solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing our society. Watch Walter Isaacson, CEO of the Aspen Institute, talk about the success of the 2012 Aspen Ideas Festival and his takeaways from the event:

“People don’t generally just get to sit around, find common ground, talk face-to-face, especially in the digital age where so many people are forming Facebook friend circles and Google circles,” Isaacson said. “To actually see each other and just sit in a nice, quiet environment and exchange ideas – that’s particularly important in this day and age when we do so much digitally and by e-mail.”

With hundreds of industry leaders sharing their wisdom over the seven day-long event, it’s hard to choose just a few shining moments but Isaacson shared some of his highlights with genConnect CEO Nancy Spears.

“I think Ehud Barak has been the most interesting so far. The whole question of what we will do with Iran will be huge. Secondly, Brian Green – the notion of the Higgs boson particle -which on Wednesday, coming up this week, will show some more evidence of what that really means and why we should care about it. That was important to me as well.”

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) will would hold a press conference on the Higgs boson particle on Wednesday, July 4. It’s expected scientists will announce they have enough evidence to prove that the so-called “God particle” exists.
