How Samsung Connected Olympian Megan Rapinoe and Sportscaster Dan Patrick (VIDEO)

The Samsung Olympic Genome Project is helping to energize Olympic fans and connects those fans to the athletes long before the London 2012 Opening Ceremonies. Watch American sportscaster Dan Patrick and U.S. women’s national soccer star midfielder Megan Rapinoe explain the excitement behind Samsung’s Genome Project:


Patrick says the Genome Project allows fans to become more familiar with the athletes and create a stronger connection. “I know a lot more about her [Rapinoe] than she knows that I know about her,” Patrick says, laughing. “All I’m doing is using my Facebook app.”

With the Genome Project, he added, “now we get to know them [athletes] 100 days out, then you go into the Olympics so you’re already invested in them … I think it’s a benefit to the athletes because you get people to invest in them – literally invest in them.”

Rapinoe said the Genome Project can particularly help boost women’s sports and those sports that don’t get as much media hype as, say, men’s basketball.

“There’s nothing better than performing your sport in such a packed arena,” she says. “We’re all not LeBron James out there on every single media site. Especially for a female athlete – have something like the Genome Project get me out there, get my team out there. For many other athletes too that aren’t in high-profile sports, it’s pretty cool to have so much information out there about us.”
