Lori Gottlieb was single, dating and wondering why it was so hard to find the right guy as her friends got happily married off left and right, when she thought of writing the book, Marry Him: The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough. “I started to think maybe some of us who were still out there dating weren’t looking for the things that would predict happiness in marriage,” Gottlieb says.

She conducted research and spoke to experts “to find out what are the factors that make for long-term happiness in marriage and how does that differ from what a lot of young women in particular are looking for nowadays.”

“A lot of us will dismiss people on very superficial criteria even tho we don’t consider it superficial,” she said. “It’s really about looking for qualities in a partner that you’re going to spend the rest of your life with and not the person you’re going to sit waiting by the phone for.”
