“That’s a lesson I learned the hard way,” said Chua, a Yale Law School professor and author of Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, a memoir and reflection on cultural differences in child-rearing between East and West, which includes hard – and often, extreme – lessons Chinese parents instill in their children.
