Aspen, Colorado – July 20, 2010 – genConnect.com (http://www.genconnect.com), at the Aspen Ideas Festival, sat down with Kamala Harris, the current San Francisco District Attorney and Democratic Candidate for California Attorney General election this November. In a four-part exclusive interview with genConnect’s Kelly Hayes, Harris provides her views on a number of issues.
Harris, who the The Huffington Post dubbed “The Female Obama” is the first woman and the first African American to be elected District Attorney in San Francisco’s history. In a wide ranging interview with genConnect.com she discusses topics that range from being “a first in politics”, to her views on the Child Cyber Safety Act, to the importance of education in reducing crime and how important a role mentorship plays in the lives of young people.
Below are a few highlights and links from the exclusive interview.
“There is no such thing as inspiring to be the first,” Harris told us. “I believe we are inspired because we believe we can do the job better.”

“Issues that impact children have been marginalized far too long,” said Harris, who specialized in child sexual assault cases and has created a child assault unit in her office. The stereotype has been that “you care about children’s issues if you’re a woman, parent or care about cute, cuddly things.”
