Marie Claire Editor-in-Chief Anne Fulenwider: Work Fashion Tips for Women

[ 0 ] August 1, 2014 |

Anne Fulenwider is not only the editor-in-chief of Marie Claire magazine, a leading publication for women’s fashion trends, but she is a fashion trendsetter herself.

WATCH as Anne Fulenwider talks to genConnect at SXSW 2014 about how in this day and age, a woman can show up at work or a social event as herself when it comes to fashion, how work dress has changed since the ’80s, and how women can easily change their looks from day-to-night if they can’t run home for a wardrobe switch:

“The dress code has really become much more flexible. You can really stay true to what you feel like wearing,” even in fields such as law and business, where the dress code may be more conservative.

“We like to advise women to wear something they feel comfortable in, that they do feel expresses themselves. You do’t have to stick to black or navy blue. And so you can really find clothes in a range of prices that show off the feminine shape … and you can really express yourself through fashion in the workplace.”

Anne Fulenwider graduated from Harvard with a degree in English Literature, got an internship in New York at a magazine geared towards 20-year-olds called Swing, and over the next several years, worked at The Paris ReviewVanity Fair, and Brides, in addition to working as an executive editor at Marie Claire. She spent years learning what it takes to oversee a major publication by working closely with other top editors before eventually rising the ranks to the top of the magazine world.
