U.S. Women Win First-Ever Gold in Olympic Water Polo (VIDEO)

The U.S. Women’s Water Polo team beat Spain 8 to 5 in the gold medal match of the London 2012 Olympic Games, winning the first-ever gold medal in history for U.S. Women’s Water Polo. The team won silver at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Team USA’s Maggie Steffens was named tournament MVP, scoring an astounding five goals in the final. She was the leading scorer for the tournament. “I love being part of a team, especially now, just being able to do this and train for an Olympic Games. My teammates are my best friends who I turn to in any circumstance, so it’s a very special thing,” Armstrong said.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Men’s Water Polo team got knocked out in the quarterfinals Wednesday by Croatia, who won 8-2, knocking the American men out of medal contention.
