Electric vehicles may very well be the wave of the future.
Watch Ben Holland, project manager for Project Get Ready at the Rocky Mountain Institute, which has been at the forefront of the electric car movement, discuss how over the next two years, every major automobile maker plans to release an electric vehicle:
“That’s really a change in the industry where in the past, electric vehicles were really considered to be glorified versions of golf carts,” Holland says of auto makers’ electric vehicle plans. “Now we’re really on the cusp of something new in transportation and we are trying to facilitate the exchange of information between stakeholders so we can ramp up the adoption of these vehicles.” Even Justin Bieber got an electric car for his birthday!
Project Get Ready is working with 25 U.S. cities and international partners in cities like Paris and Amsterdam to discover what’s working and what’s not in the adoption of electric vehicles. Across the world, countries and cities are installing charging stations and other facilitates needed for electric vehicles and their drivers to incentivize this new form of transportation. “There’s a huge infrastructure piece to this and cities are trying to figure out the best way to go about it,” Holland said.
