‘Find What Plucks the Heart Strings of the User’ (VIDEO)
Alan Cooper is known as the ‘Father of Visual Basic’ for his experience humanizing technology. Watch Cooper discuss what makes great technology and what companies are lighting a fire under the user experience below:
Cooper is all about the user experience, he says, and even if a company offers all the latest whiz-bangs in a technology, it won’t be a success if it doesn’t fully satisfy the user.
“When can you find what plucks the heart strings of the user?” Cooper asks. User-interaction is about “the story you tell.”
Cooper runs design firm Cooper in San Francisco, one of the old guard design firms. They specialize in helping companies big and small personalize the user experience to the max.

“Technology is really important and everybody’s chasing it and you’ve got to have it but technology alone isn’t going to get you success,” Cooper says. In today’s “perfect market,” he added, ”you have to achieve a level of desirability in the mind of the user – very high, very quickly – otherwise they move right along. So it doesn’t matter how many features you deliver, what matters is: How easy is it to use? How satisfying it is to use? And how much a person wants to use it.”
