New iPad Review; What Makes Apple ‘Enchanting’

New iPad introduced by Apple; former Apple evangelist Guy Kawasaki on what makes Apple, brands ‘enchanting’

It has arrived. The new iPad by Apple was introduced to the world Wednesday, and is now the talk of the Web. Why does Apple continue to dazzle? Guy Kawasaki, founder chief Apple evangelist, talked to genConnect at last year’s SXSW festival about what it is that makes a certain company or brand “enchanting:”

“Apple enchants you, and you buy a Macintosh, an iPhone, an iPod, an iPad, you use iTunes and iBooks. The next thing you know, you’re standing in front of the Apple pop-up store here Friday at noon waiting five hours to get the iPad 2. That’s enchanting,” said Kawasaki, co-founder of Alltop.com and author of Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions.

“I really think that enchantment starts at the heart and not the mind, and the starting point of enchantment really is that you’re a likable, trustworthy person. The third pillar is that you have to have a great cause, product, service. If you just had those three things, you’d be pretty enchanting.

“Some examples: Apple has great products, enchanting company. Virgin America, extremely likable CEO. Enchanting. And Zappos chips shoes both ways, pays the postage both ways. Very trustworthy. So those are three great examples of trustworthiness, likability, and product.”

The new 4G LTE iPad features a 9.7-inch retina display, a 5-megapixel camera and 1080p video recording - and for a price starting at $499. Backside illumination allows users to take great photos in low-light conditions and a new video image stabilization feature removes the bumps and shakes typically seen when filming with a hand-held device.

“The new iPad redefines the category Apple created less than two years ago, delivering the most amazing experience people have ever had with technology,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing. “The new iPad now has the highest resolution display ever seen on a mobile device with 3.1 million pixels, delivering razor sharp text and unbelievable detail in photos and videos.”
