What do people search for the most on Google?

“It spans everything. They’re looking for directions, they’re looking for restaurants,” “how-to” help, celebrity news, images, and other items, said Jon Wiley, lead designer for Google Search.

About 16 percent of Google searches everyday are queries the search engine giant has never seen before, which means Google users have imagination.

Google’s top fastest rising query for 2011 was “Rebecca Black,” the 14-year-old singer whose song “Friday” was heard by millions on YouTube last year, and got the attention of the likes of the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber, Wiley said. Another hot search item: “planking.” That is where people literally drop down to the ground wherever they are — or, on top of an item of their choice, like a snowman — and lie in a prone position.
