Helping Spanish-Speaking Women Bloggers Find Their Voice (VIDEO)
When Claudia Calvin-Venero started scouring the Web looking for a place for Spanish-speaking female voices to be heard, she came up empty. So, Calvin-Venero launched Mujeres Construyendo – which translates into English as “Women Building” – for women who speak Spanish on the Internet and make use of new technologies to maximize their impact on the world, and to share, propose, discuss, express, influence, and challenge ideas.

“What inspired me to create Mujeres Construyendo … was that I found there was a lack of women’s voices in Spanish-speaking Internet,” Calvin-Venero said.
“In the United States, women represent more than 50 percent of the bloggers and in the Spanish-speaking blogosphere, women nowadays represent 25 percent, but when I started blogging, we represented less than 15 percent. So, this seemed to me a lack of representation from half of the population of a region and I’m convinced that words reflect realities and if half of the population was not represented on Internet, then half of the realities, the interests and the things that ought to be heard was missing.”
