Ever wish you could scan something from your iPhone? Now you can. Watch Abhi Shelat, co-founder of Arqball, reveal the software behind his new Arqball Spin app:
Arqball Spin makes your iPhone into a 3D pocket scanner that allows you to share that content on the Internet. Anyone with a modern device- iPhone, iPad, other tablet, etc… – can have that same 3D experience on the receiving end, twisting and turning the scanned object at various angles for different views.
“Essentially, you point the camera at the object as it rotates and push the record button,” Shelat told genConnect. “In about twenty seconds, this iPhone will scan the object and produce a 3D representation. Sixty seconds later, it will compress [the image] and upload it to the Internet…then you can share it with anyone on the Internet.”

UPDATE 9/11/12: A new version of Arqball spin was released today making your scanning experience easier and more effective. Previously requiring a special turning platform, the new Arqball Spin app will work with ANY turntable provided it makes one complete 360-degree revolution in at least one minute. No wires or bluetooth connections, no special speeds, no proprietary expensive hardware required. Arqspin is also launching a BETA version of the software for Android.
