“As a father of a 7-year old, I felt that there was not a good children’s book – or young adult book for that matter – that harnesses the energy of everything that we see around us … everything that’s great and fun and naughty and adventur-ey about the food world,” Zimmern told genConnect. “I thought, ‘I wanted to take on that challenge.’”

The book, which comes out October 30, 2012, highlights Zimmern’s most memorable weird, wild, and wonderful foods will fascinate and delight eaters of all ages. He hopes his book makes kids more accepting of other cultures and backgrounds – with food at the center of the discussion.

“I’ve always believed that the message of ‘Bizarre Foods’ is acceptance and tolerance,” Zimmern said. “Everything I do has to fit that same model.”
