Nichols became the first American woman to win gold medals at both the summer and winter Paralympic Games as she excels at both basketball and alpine skiing.

Although Nichols is incredibly humble, she is a bit of a superstar back in her home town of Farmington, N.M. ” It’s awesome,” she said. “I have my own day there; May 7th is my day. Once that day comes along, we’ll have a big Paralympic celebration.”

The 2012 Summer Paralympics will take place in London from August 29 – September 9, 2012, directly after the 2012 Olympics. Unfortunately, the events will not be televised in the United States, but there are other ways to watch the competition on YouTube and the International Paralympic Committee website. The USA Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team is hoping to defend its gold medal from the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.
