Spotify is a commercial music streaming service launched in 2008 providing digital rights management-restricted  content from record labels like Sony, EMI, Warner Music Group and Universal. Free Spotify music streaming is now available on all Android and iOS devices and on desktop computers for unlimited durations. Users can pay for premium services such as offline listening and ad-free playback. Spotify was developed in 2006 by a team at Spotify AB, in  Stockholk, Sweden; the company was founded by Daniel Ek during a time when piracy was taking over the music industry. Clift said Ek made it his mission to create a vehicle for making all music accessible to all people. The music labels in Sweden were willing to give him the licensing needed to make that music accessible via this particular vehicle.

It’s not just the availability of vast collections of music that Spotify users can access for free, which makes this system unique, Clift said. Anyone on a tablet, mobile phone or other device can access any music that music they love.

“We work really  hard to make it so that you have an easy way to sort of create  your collection of music, so you can house your music identity,” Clift said.
