The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) takes Las Vegas, Nevada by storm every January. CES is known throughout the globe as the yearly event at which the most innovative, cutting-edge products are brought to market.

WATCH as Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) (which owns and produces CES) talk about the meteoric rise of International CES:

CES “has just blossomed as the world place for innovation to come to market,” Shapiro said. With more than 3,500 companies exhibiting, well over 150,000 people attending – more than 40,000 of them from outside the U.S. – the event is also attracting government leaders and heads of innovative companies of all shapes and sizes from all corners of the globe.

CES is a particularly important venue for startups trying to attract attention to their products. In fact, there’s a special area at the convention designated just for startups, which have to qualify to reserve a space, which currently holds about 200 companies.

“It’s an area that has buzz,” Shapiro said. WATCH as Gary Shapiro talks more about how CES can turn an idea into an actual business:

CES is “four full days of those startups and entrepreneurs getting feedback, input, investments,” Shapiro said. It’s at CES where startups can receive orders for their products from huge companies such as Walmart and Target on the spot. “That turns you from an entrepreneur to a successful business immediately,” InternationalCESShapiro said.

“It’s four days of drinking from a firehose and it’s a great way for you to test out a concept in the marketplace where you’ve got something real, and really get feedback, make your adjustment, then do well as an entrepreneur.”
