‘Anything’ Author Jennie Allen: How Prayer Changed My Life (VIDEO)
What if you told God that you’d do whatever he asked — and he took you up on it? Jennie Allen, Bible teacher and author of Anything: The Prayer That Unlocked My God and My Soul, can tell you.
Watch Allen explain how her life changed after one prayer to God and what the experience of writing a book on God was like:
Both Allen and her husband grew up in the church and believed in God for quite some time but felt they hadn’t completely surrendered their lives to God. Moved by the life of Katie Davis, a young woman who started a non-profit ministry in Uganda and adopted several local children, Allen and her husband were inspired to make a change in their lives.

“I wanted to push my life in and say, ‘God you can do whatever you want with me,’” Allen told genConnect. “So [my husband and I] prayed this simple letter prayer, we said, ‘God, we’ll do anything,’ and he kind of unleashed around us and began to call us to things really out of our comfort zone.”
It wasn’t a magic moment or reversal, Allen explained. But over the course of the year, Allen saw a change happen in her life and the lives of others.
“We watched around us other people pray this same prayer. It changed people’s experience with God. They found that the things God has written for us, the life he has drawn for us, is better than the one we are writing for ourselves,” Allen said. “It’s just that we are kind of afraid of what he is going to call us to do and so we hold on and try to control it. Ironically, he turns out to be better at writing our own lives.”

Allen then decided to put pen to paper and tell her story. The end product is Anything: The Prayer That Unlocked My God and My Soul, a book that spotlights Allen as she wrestles with the questions she faced as she handed her life over to God.
