What would you do to raise environmental awareness? The Green Girl Minute host and AREDAY Vice President Ginna Kelly is setting the bar pretty high – 19,340 feet high, in fact – as she prepares to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about climate change and species extinction. Watch Kelly talk about how she hopes to make the world a better place with her non-profit, Climb for Conservation:
“I’ve always been interested in the outdoors, environment and nature,” Kelly told genConnect, “and I just made it my life’s mission to focus on the environment and what we can do to make the world a better place.”
Her latest mission is a challenging climb of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and tallest freestanding mountain in the world, in November 2012. The climb, organized by Kelly’s non-profit Climb for Conservation, aims to raise awareness and funds for local conservation by organizing mountain climbs around the world. The money raised from the climb will benefit projects at the African Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary.
Kelly will not be alone. She has enlisted the help of eco-conscious women like actress and author Mariel Hemingway; research scientist for the National Snow and Ice Data Center Julienne Stroeve; race car driver Leilani Munter; and nine others to join her in the climb.
