Gideon Stein is working to turn around schools that otherwise may be written off as education failures, helping to redefine what’s possible in public education. Watch Gideon Stein, Vice Chair of Success Academy Charter Schools and President of Future Is Now Schools discuss changing the future of education and how schools in lower-income neighborhoods can be success stories:
For example, Future Is Now Schools is turning around a school in New Orleans – one of the worst in the city – increasing enrollment and working on revitalizing the community around the school. Meanwhile, Success Academy is working to establish charter schools in mixed-income areas of New York City with diverse neighborhoods – with great success.
“They’re all coming together in schools that, for the first time in years, are integrated by choice,” in comparison to forced integration, Stein said. “Now, a number of charter schools, particularly in New York City, are doing mixed income schools and mixed race and mixed ethnicity schools that are working beautifully.”
