The Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama in April 2012. The goal was to ease some regulations to make it easier for small businesses to get financing and startup funding. It allows businesses to crowdfundingjobsaccept small contributions from private individuals – also known as crowdfunding – without making an initial public offering, and gives regular people a chance to become investors. EarlyShares has the pieces of its crowdfunding process together but is awaiting final regulations from the federal Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to lay out exactly how each piece of the JOBS Act can fit together.
