CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux Talks Health Care Reform, Elections (VIDEO)

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld President Obama’s landmark health care reform measure – a ruling welcomed by Democrats and those in favor of the bill, but one that will provide fodder for Republicans as they head into an election season, many of whom are calling for a repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

Watch CNN Newsroom correspondent Suzanne Malveaux talk with genConnect about the landmark Supreme Court health care decision and how young people can affect the 2012 election:

“Some people see this perhaps as a way of the court expressing its objectivity instead of what some people see as a political role of the court,” Malveaux said of the court’s 5-4 vote in favor of the Affordable Care Act. “I think people take comfort in that. And that’s good – there were questions, people questioning the credibility of the court. People do not want to see everything broken along partisan lines – that’s what’s really frustrating people.”

When it comes to politics, many young people often feel their voices aren’t being heard. But we’re seeing a spike in the political energy from this demographic now as President Obama and Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney take to college campuses, rallying support as they head into the general election season.

“Whatever way you swing politically,” Malveaux said, “it’s really important you participate.”
