“I love travel,” the veteran journalist Gray Faust says. “It’s my passion. It’s the thing I would do if I wasn’t getting paid for it, which luckily I am.”
She continued: “Think about what you love, and then start a blog that’s based around that. Really invest your time and your soul into it, and look for opportunities to promote it.”
Social media plays a pivotal role in helping launch travel writing careers, so take advantage of Twitter and Facebook, Gray Faust says. Aspiring travel writers should also forge partnerships with more established bloggers. You can also monetize travel writing by freelance writing, syndication, affiliate relationships and sponsorships, she said.
But to be successful, you must work hard and focus. “I get up in the morning and I start writing, I start promoting,” Gray Faust says.
