Capitalist and capitalism are very loaded words, of which most– half of all my environmental and conscious friends– It’s funny because if you take that word conscious capitalism, half of people would be like I love the term. What’s with the conscious part? Capitalism is great on its own. Capitalism creates great things in the world and that’s what our society’s all about.

The other half of the people would be like well, what’s this capitalism thing all about? We’re all about consciousness in the world. And we want to do things respectfully and compassionately and consciously in the world with those we respect and live with. But the capitalism thing is the end of all of that. And so really what I want to talk about is not so much the ist or the ism, but really capital as a resource. Deciding that where you want to put your money is going to create something in the world from that.

And if we think about this world that we want to live in the future– Because everyone agrees whatever you think about global warming, whatever you think about climate change, whatever you think about various issues in the world, there’s nobody who doesn’t want clean air to breathe. There’s nobody who doesn’t want clean water to drink. And there’s nobody that wants children to not have access to food. Everybody wants the world to become a better and safer and healthier place for everyone.

And so if we want that– If we want that kind of world, we have to fund it. Because we can philosophize about it. And we can envision it. And we can design it. And we can write about these incredible utopian societies that we want. But as long as we keep funding things that create the opposite, we’re never going to have that world. And so, I believe that we can philosophize about it. We can design it. But until we fund it, we can’t build it.
