Evan Williams, the CEO of Twitter, tells at the Aspen Ideas Festival that contrary to popular belief, Twitter users aren’t all young hipsters. Watch this clip below where Williams sheds light on the community that first turned to Twitter and how the tool connects users across generations:

To recap: Twitter didn’t really start with younger people, says Williams. It started with more the technical and professional community. Twitter is not a “social network”; it’s an “information network” — where people go to find customized news and information. While they’re seeing a growth of young peopleĀ  join Twitter, it didn’t start with the younger generations.
