Sheryl Sandberg is the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook and was previously Vice President of Global Online Sales and Operations at Google. Sheryl serves on the boards of The Walt Disney Company, Starbucks, Women for Women International and the Center for Global Development. But her very first job was in her father’s ophthalmologist’s office while she was in high school. She also used to be an aerobics instructor. Needless to say, she knows a little about business. “I think the number one thing we need to do to change what is really a stalled revolution at the top of all of our industries,” Sandberg said, noting that women need to increase their numbers at the top of corporate America and in Congress, among other places. “If we keep making progress but we don’t make progress at the top, that’s a stalled revolution.”

“The most important thing we can do is get women to start out in their career assuming they want to stay there,” she added, referring to how many women drop out of the workforce to stay home with their children, or start work “Until we have equal homes, it’s very hard to have equal performance at work.”

“If you start your career as if you’re not sure you’re going to stay in … women need to keep their foot on the gas pedal until they have a decision to make, not earlier.”

Aside from the advice Sheryl dished on working moms, she talked about the excitement surrounding the impact Facebook is having on people, businesses, and the great feeling of being connected to people at times she needs to feel those connections. How would she convince people to get on the Facebook bandwagon?

“Facebook can be used however you want to use it,” she says. “Facebook’s a really universal tool.”
