“It will last any length of time if you don’t start eating a lot again,” Dr. Airan says. “If your weight stays stable, then those fat cells won’t come back.”

And with age also comes more of these fat deposits that they just seem impossible to shed.

“Unless your extremely skinny, you tend to have areas of fat depositing in your body as you get older,” Dr. Airan said. “It’s a problem most people have.”

One of the most exciting new trends in Dr. Airan’s field is platelet-rich plasma, a technique in which a doctor draws the patients blood, spins it, concentrates the platelets in the plasma, then re-injects the concentrated plasma underneath the skin. “This is proving to be an excellent technique for helping the texture of the skin,” Dr. Airan said. “Especially for the fine lines around the mouth and the eyelids – those are two excellent places to put this.”

Oral supplements can also help boost hydration for those on the go, and exercise, of course, does wonders for the body and skin.

“The harder the exercise, the better,” Dr. Airan said.
