PATH is a personal social network that allows you to share important moments of your life with your closest friends and family. “If Facebook is sort of a city and Yammer is like your office, then we’re trying to build a home” with PATH, said Morin, who previously worked at Facebook and Apple.

Microsoft recently acquired Yammer, which has more than 5 million corporate users and allows employees to join a secure, private social network for free, then makes it easy for companies to convert a grassroots movement into a company-wide strategic initiative. Morin highlighted several other startups focusing on specific networks such as neighborhoods and couples, which are making names for themselves.

“I think mobile is really enabling these very social contextual experiences, whereas the Web didn’t really do that before,” Morin said.

Outside of entrepreneurship, Morin is an avid skier, and says that athletics can teach us a great deal about good business.

“Athletics, no matter what sport it is … sort of teaches you a sense of camaraderie, loyalty to teammates, leadership. A big part of the Olympic values is this Olympic value system, [which] is about integrity and being a good sportsman,” Morin said. “I think at the end of the day, when you’re building a company, building a new product, you’re out there on the field, playing the game and you need to do that with integrity.”
