A Closer Look At The Hunt For El Chapo

[ 0 ] January 14, 2015 |

Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman is known for many things; being head of the worlds most violent and powerful drug cartel, being one of the richest men in the world, and for breaking out of prison not once but twice.

El Chapo first escaped from maximum security Mexican prison in 2001 and alluded both Mexican and U.S. authorities for 13 years. In 2014 El Chapo was captured by two American filmmakers and sent back to prison in Mexico.

Watch as Co – Directors Angus MacQueen and Guillermo Galdos share their thoughts on the fours years they spent tracking El Chapo Guzman.

When Angus  Macqueen and Guillermo Galdos were asked to do a movie on El Chapo’s first escape in prison they had just one condition, they had to join the hunt to find the long time escaped prisoner. The Chicago based filmmakers embarked on a journey into El Chapo’s forbidden heartland in the Mexican Golden Triangle. In 2014, after much research the two men finally did what no one else could do in 13 years – capture El Chapo and send him back to prison.

However, after just 17 months in jail El Chapo has managed to escape another maximum security prison yet again. Saturday July 11, El Chapo climbed into a hole in his cell and crawled through a mile long tunnel that led to the outside world. The escape was elaborate and many speculate that people both inside and outside of the prison helped aid El Chapo to freedom.

Mexican and U.S. Authorities are still on the hunt for this dangerous man and won’t rest until he is locked up again.
